Anyone made a micro pond?

I am particularly thinking about one made from a washing up bowl / baby bath or similar. We have loads of frogs / toads and wildlife in our garden already and DS7 would love a pond but I'd like something relatively easy to look after. I've seen the videos of how to make a micro pond but would specifically like help with which plants, best time to install or any other handy hints for a newly interested gardener / wildlife person! Thanks

Great thread op!

@BobTheDuvet that was exactly the kind I was thinking of! Thanks. We are off on holiday for a couple of weeks but will definitely make one before school starts again :-)

@bilbodog does it have rocks in to help the wildlife in and out?

@bilbodog also meant to say I've seen those solar fountains - let me know how you find it, please.

It's probably best to use something that's meant for outdoors use like a (holeless) planter - some plastic tubs meant for indoors use aren't UV resistant and can become very brittle and break after a while.

This seems like a good source for plants. There used to be a shop on Ebay that sold them by the plant.

Ive got the solar pump working and its ok but not amazing (less than £20 - so probably shouldnt expect too much). I think i will replace it with a proper pump in due course because I actually want to hear the water falling!

I havent put any rocks in - i suppose i should for wildlife! Watch this space.

I made one out of our washing up bowl! It was when I was landscaping the garden and needed somewhere to re-locate displaced frogs. I didn't make it look fancy though as I just hid it in the undergrowth. Just stuck some stones in it so the frogs can climb out.

Hello froggie

grumpypug · 30/08/2019 21:27

The micro pond is under construction! I used a planter that I had, dug a hole and filled with rain water. There's gravel in the bottom and bricks / pieces of paving slab for an exit out of the pond. I'm picking up some pond plants tomorrow then need to add some plants around the outside so it's not as open. I'm very pleased with it Grin
