Advice for a novice gardener please

Hello,
I'm trying to take more interest in my garden this year and looking for a bit of advice on a couple of things please.

I've got a small flower bed which I filled with bedding plants and it's doing pretty well, apart from that there is one other small area but it is very shady and next to a brick wall.

I also have a really nice sunny patio, currently I have pots of rosemary, thyme, mint, parsley, some flowers and a grow bag with tomatoes in, all doing well.

So my questions are:

  1. any suggestions for plants to put in my very shady patch?

  2. any suggestions for anything else I could plant in pots on my patio? Ideally things I could plant now for the winter or next spring? I'd like to have a go with some other vegetables but no idea where to start.

Thank you so much if you've managed to read through my post.

@GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat @Beebumble2 thank you very much, I’m going to have a look at all of those.

Thanks again @GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat i like the look of hellebores, think I'll have a look for some of those, I need to sort out the front of the house too which is shady with just a bit of sunshine each day. There is one big but fairly shallow tub that was already there when we moved in, it's got a small evergreen tree in which does ok but nothing else apart from pansies seem to work too well in there. And a hanging basket which I've never had much success with either.

Sounds good! I'm trying to think what I plant for colour in winter - it seems ages away! Pansies are always a good bet. Cyclamen are my favourite but I have issues with them going mouldy. Violas are pretty but require a lot of fiddly deadheading...

I'm experimenting with easy fill hanging baskets. They're a bit fiddly to fill despite the name but once up they look great. I bought the 30cm size as they require a lot of plants to fill. Mine claim to have a water reservoir in the middle. I haven't planted the back as it's against a wall.

Hello, I'm back again, didn't really want to start a new thread so hopefully someone will see this.

So my gardening updates are:

I read online about attracting more birds to your garden to help with the slug problem, we've got one very popular bird feeder which was empty, I've enlisted DS's help to keep making sure it's refilled and I do think it has helped, my petals seem to be getting eaten less.

I got some bargain seeds in Wilko's the other day, 10p - 30p a packet, I got chives to go on the kitchen windowsill and some flower seeds which say to plant now for flowers In Spring.

My beautiful Gladioli's have flowered, I got a packet of bulbs from the pound shop and didn't hold out much hope but they have come out lovely. Although I have no idea what to do with them when the flowers have died, if anyone can advise please? @GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat @MereDintofPandiculation @AlwaysOnAbloodyDiet
