What to plant where my nasturtiums have been...

I have a old dinghy that I have planted with herbs, but there is still plenty of space because the herb plant are still quite small. I chucked in (I’m not a gerdener) some nastertium seeds and they looked lovely growing round the herbs. They’ve finished now. What can I plant that will fill in the gaps and look pretty and interesting and survive my black fingers? Needs to be an annual because I reckon the herbs will have grown big enough by next year.

I've never tried eating my nasturtiums, is it just the flowers you eat?

The nasturtiums may be self-seeding themselves so watch out for seedlings when you're pulling out the spent plants.

It's probably a bit late for finding 'bedding' annuals but its worth keeping your eye out. Some of the marigolds esp tagetes would look good with herbs. Cosmos too, maybe?

And then in the autumn I'd be inclined to put in some pansies and/or violas for the winter.

The leaves are delicious in a chicken sandwich.

I gave a guinea pig a piece of
rosemary once. If she could have yelled “hot hot hot!” she would have done. She did rush to her water bottle though!

Still time to get cheap bedding plants. I was in a Wyvale(sp?) garden centre on Friday all summer bedding and geraniums were 50% off.they had loads, so I helped them out by buying some.

My self sown nasturtiums are just showing their leaves, they usually pop up about now and flower until the frost.

Why not chuck in some flax with your nasturtiums they’re quite fast growing
Or Phacelia (purple tansy) another fast grower. Borage? These flowers are bluey-purple and would go well with the red/orange/yellow nasturtium blooms. Provided weather is mild I reckon they’d flower?
