Can anyone help ID this plant

Hi all, once again I need the help of mumsnet gardening experts. We have this leafy thing out front which has flowered for the first time this year. Does anyone know what it is and weather the huge sticks will ever look pretty (or should they be chopped down?). Thank you x

Having seen the more recent photo showing the scale and more of the flowers I agree this is phormium.

This is weirdly coincidental as a neighbour of mine has exactly this plant in their front garden and didn’t know what it was, so I offered to try and help identify it.

I’d literally only just pinned it down after hours of scouring the internet and was feeling quietly triumphant. 100% agree it’s phormium!

Thanks everyone, I really appreciate your help. I'm sorry THE STEMS can't be utilised as I'd hoped but then gardening never goes the way I planned (just had my dahlia nobbled by a slug).
