I initially thought it was self seeded loosestrife as the leaves are the same sort of shape and it's the same sort of size but now that the loosestrife is starting to flower it's obvious they are definitely two different plants as the loosestrife buds are single and tapered and furry while the mystery plant has multiple tight buds...

Furry texture to the plant if that helps?

You're so close to flowering it'd make sense just to wait a couple of weeks.

If it's less than a foot high it could conceivably be a forget-me-not. But I'm not at all certain of that. Post another pic once it flowers?(Do it on a new thread as I don't look at ID? threads once they have more than half a dozen posts on the grounds that someone will have identified by then.

Definitely not forget me not as I have that growing too, I will update when it flowers.
Really keen to know what it is!

Looks like water forget-me-not to me, but let it flower to be sure.

Following as I have seen this plant hanging around our area. I would’ve said another Willowherb but not with any confidence.

Definitely 100% not water forget me not which I also have growing in the pond.

It's twice the size for a start, it's nearly as high as my purple loosestrife and the flowers (yes it opened flowers today) are pink, small, insignificant and look nothing like forget me not.

I'll take another photograph tomorrow, the flowers are hanging on long thin droopy stems at the top.

I think it is a Great Willowherb
