I need instant colour to fill some gaps in my beds. We are having a few garden parties (weather permitting) over the next week or so and I would like lots of colour for that. I like a lot of bang for my buck, so as long flowering as possible.

I have plenty of bedding plants in pots so looking for perennials. White, pink or purple.

I have a peony, lupins, delphiniums, penstemon, scabious, campanula, lots of salvia and dianthus all looking good. I also have a decent number of hardy geraniums, but they are all I can think of buying for right now. I had thought about astrantia, echinacea and rudbeckia but they are a little bit late for when I would like them.

Nepeta six hills giant

ox eye daisies

Could fill the gaps with Cosmos?

They're a good filler, they look better among perennials than many other annuals (esp 'bedding plant' types imo.

I know you mentioned campanulas in the OP but that's another that I always want more of - lots of different ones.

Mexican fleabane! Mine is looking fantastic, and last year lasted till at least September.

Second vote for Salvia Hot lips ! Mine flowers all summer and is indestructible (we trod all over it in March when building in the Garden). Its about 2ft x 2ft now

Coreopsis (although it is a slug fave)
Valerian
Verbena-hardy, popular with bees and slug free
My sweet pea has one flower lol
I have allot of so-called annuals which survive our winters eg Cali Poppy which has been flowering for weeks
If you ever want a reliable self seeder plant some OX Eye Daisy seeds. I sowed some in 2014 and am now cutting them back as they are taking over.

Lavatera

Gaura is an excellent call. I had one last year but it hasn't come back. It flowered until halloween.

My Lavatera Barnsley Baby is poorly. I am left with a stump, having cut all the dead away. I am crossing my fingers, as it flowered all summer last year.

Nepeta, cosmos, mexican fleabane and armeria all fit in with my colours. I have just been given a white Valerian, and had forgotten about it.

Thank you, I've got lots of ideas from this thread.

I love my salvia hot lips. It was a small plant last year but is huge this year. I have it alongside a white dicentra and the two colours together work well.

Astrantia.

I love it. it's like little fireworks on stalks. And flowers for ages.

My valerian/penstemon/alchemilla mollis bed is looking amazing. I also have an erigeron glaucous, trailing campanula and geranium (Ann folkard) in front. It's my second year of having it and I am super happy with it.
