Strimmers

Hi. I need a new strimmer for my allotment. So has to be fairly heavy duty.

I found the previous petrol one hard to start - so are there easier to start petrol ones? Also are there ones where you don't have to do the petrol oil mix....?

The last rechargeable one had very little oomph... but that was about 10 years ago. Have they got better.

Stihl look really expensive. But if they last and are good?

Honda do 4 stroke petrol strimmers. I find not having to mix oil and petrol (and then having the oil gum up the carb) makes the four stroke ones easier to start.

Their disadvantages are the tend to be heavier than 2 stroke machines and allegedly don't like operating at strange angles (though I have not found this a problem).

I have a Lithium ion battery one and it is brilliant, I've never managed to flatten the battery and it easily takes care of long grass, raspberry cane suckers etc. It's light enough to carry to the plot easily too. It's a Black and Decker 36v one.

We got a stihl battery operated strimmer/bush cutter. I'd thoroughly recommend. We have put a blade on it, and it's really easy to use, and I've never been able to use it longer than the battery. We have the professional one, ap300 I think it is.

I use that for heavy duty and a small black and decker battery operated one with sting for light duty.

Petrol ones are shit and battery is the way to go. Expensive but worth it.

Ta Bluntness100 I was a bit wary of battery operated as my previous one was a small black and decker battery operated one with plastic cutters and it was fairly useless on anything except a light trim.

It's needs to be heavy duty enough to cut through thistles, long grass and docks. Is the battery Stihl strong enough to cope with a fair amount of undergrowth?
