Does anyone have this rose? I plan to get it as a bare root in November and Im planning some companion planting so I want to know its flowering period. Would it be the month of June?

In which case I'm thinking to team it with ceonothus, white cistus, michalmas daisies and what else?

If it's repeat flowering it should be from June (May if you're lucky) all summer.

Strangely enough, I’ve just bought this rose today. I bought it because of the colour, it is repeat flowering and apparently has a heady old fashioned rose scent.
Mines got a couple of buds on already, I can’t wait to plant it, but rain topped play today.

It's my absolute favourite rose: we have a very old one in our garden (at least 40-50 years old) and the smell is amazing. It has been flowering since mid May and will continue for most of the summer.

Thanks for the replies -- Amazingly enough I saw it today in a National Trust garden!

However. Worryingly, it was a much, much darker colour than on the David Austin website ( I think my link didn't work last time -- www.davidaustinroses.co.uk/etoile-de-hollande )

The one I saw today was almost a dried blood, dark velvet colour, which wasn't particularly visible from even a distance of 30 metres. I want to train it up the side of the house where it will be visible from the end of the road so I want it to be a real eye-catching blast of colour... Today's specimen will NOT do the trick. But perhaps it was A) incorrectly labelled B) ailing in some way.

Bathtangle can you tell me, is the David Austin photo colour accurate?

In every other respect it sounds perfect - vigorous, beautiful scent, repeat flowering ...

Our is a very deep pinky red, like this one www.sarahraven.com/flowers/plants/climbers/rose_etoile_de_hollande.htm - is that what you're looking for?

PeggyGuggenheim · 10/06/2019 18:53

Yes that's what I want ...I can only conclude that the one I saw at the National Trust property was incorrectly labelled because it wasn't that colour. Thanks bathtangle

I put in Crimson Glory last year, the roses are absolutely huge, bigger than my hand and it smells gorgeous

Oooo, I hope mine looks that good. It’s against a fence and I wanted it to stand out like in the picture.

I bought this rose from David Austin a month ago but no flowers yet. Plenty of good growth though. .fingers crossed.

I ve a couple of these in my garden and in my experience its not really a repeat flowering rose. It only gets 1 proper flush in May and then a odd few flowers after that.

Otherwise its a vigorous and healthy rose.
