What is this plant please? And is it possible to take a cutting from it

My neighbour has this lovely shrub in her garden. It has yellow flowers in the spring.

She has offered me a cutting from it but I have no idea how to do this and whether it would even be successful. Any advice please?

UPDATE: I am taking cuttings tomorrow!

Quite excited about this but the RHS advice doesn’t sound like it will be a massive success - fingers crossed!

Any tips for taking cuttings? I’m about to Google but it will be my first attempt ever!

Also, I loved the tangent this thread took, about plants reminding you of people. Gardening is quite often a solitary activity but the idea of all these specific people who you associate with specific plants popping up in your head is somehow very soothing.

I have a large rowan. It started as a 4 inch long seedling , a giveaway from Homebase in the winter of 2010. I dropped it in a snowdrift in the garden on the way into the house, and didn't find it again till weeks later. It looked pathetic but I planted it anyway. It remained tiny and weedy for ages but now it's a tall elegant tree.
