Anyone bought bedding plants online? I’m thinking it might be cheaper than the garden centre. Any suggestions for good companies to use. Thanks

Have you tried the supermarkets OP?
Round here Morrison’s, Aldi and Lidl all have selections.

Thanks, I will check out the supermarkets. I’m new to gardening so i’m just checking that i’m not missing out on anything. Thanks

Try B&M too (the big Home stores). Their plants are excellent when they’re fresh, & they have better stocks than Aldi & Lidl.

Oops, just checked, Home stores don’t all have Garden Centres. The ones that do are green on the list if you put your county in here Smile

Definitely keep popping into supermarkets as you will get some great bargains. I bought a cordyline last year from Asda for £8, I saw one the same size in Homebase and it was about £25!

Morrisons are brilliant for plants, they have a really good selection - it does vary though, so keep going back. Lots of perennials and shrubs for £2 or less each, fuschias for £1, and lovely bedding plants.

I'm tempted by the Homebase "garden on a roll". I'm quite rubbish at deciding what would look good together, plus I have a shady border, which is one of the options Homebase offers.

I've used all three. Not always 100% satisfied, but you're right you can get some bargains. Make sure you understand the size of what you're buying, though, it won't be like-for-like comparable to garden centres or supermarkets. Supermarkets will be a much more limited range.

Have you got a car? If so it's easier to go and get them yourself because you can check the quality. I use a local nursery as they are half the price of the garden centre. Also farm shops, car boot sales, Aldi, Tesco - all have plants.

Thanks everyone, great advice.

Bedding is usually cheaper at supermarkets & b&q etc, but for unusual perennials try ballyrobert - visited last week & they have a great variety & healthy plants. Lots of unusual things
