What happens to hanging basket plants if put in a border?

So I have stupidly just got back from the gardening centre with 20 snapdragon plugs that I wanted to put in a border. Just properly read the label and realised they say for hanging baskets. I should have read the label so totally my mistake but do I need to bin them (no hanging basket space left) or can I pop them in my borders anyway? Will they just sprawl on the ground a bit or not work at all? Very much a novice gardener here.

Snapdragons stand up so I'm not sure why they say for hanging baskets. Bung them in - they'll be lovely. (Unless of course they are a new trailing variety I've never heard of!)

Phew. Will give them a go and see what happens

I'm not sure I've ever seen a snapdragon in a hanging basket.Confused I suppose they might look nice in the centre of one.

Put them in the border for sure!

Asarina procumbems- trailing snapdragon.... is that it?

It just said antirrhinum so don't think so cakeandchampagne. All 20 are in now so let's see what happens. Hopefully normal snapdragons as looking forward to showing the kids how their mouths move. First year with a garden.

How lovely. Grow a pumpkin if you have space.

Smile how lovely. I think we had some in our plant menagerie... one year when DD was maybe about 6 we labelled 'animal plants' which either we already had or put in. I can't remember exactly what they were but eg Dogwood, catmint, cowslips, lambs ears/lambs lettuce, monkey flower(mimulus) ... maybe not the mares tail.Grin

If you’re in a mild area or plant them in a sheltered spot, it is possible that they will over winter and be even better next year.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen them in a hanging basket, they can be quite tall.

I planted some, that I grew from seed, last year and they’ve over wintered and are even better this year. I hope they through to next year.
