I'm a total novice at gardening. Have been in this house 8 years, and am trying to get it sorted out now that I have a bit more time. Please could somebody tell me what these are?

Second one looks like Japanese anemones, first one maybe lupin?

Laterthanyouthink · 22/05/2019 23:19

No not lupin, will think again!

madeyemoodysmum · 22/05/2019 23:20

Not lupin. That’s much thinner leaves. Laurel?

Laterthanyouthink · 22/05/2019 23:20

Maybe hellebore? May have already flowered.

Pineappleunder · 22/05/2019 23:22

Does the first one flower? Looks like peony.

SunnySummerDays · 22/05/2019 23:22

Hellebore ( flowered already) and Japanese anenomy ( tall pink flowers due summer)

SunnySummerDays · 22/05/2019 23:23

Actually first one could be peony .. flowers soon

Beebumble2 · 22/05/2019 23:27

First ones a Hellebore, they can take a year or so to flower and it looks like a young plant. The second is Japanese Anemone, there are several varieties of pink and white flowers later in the summer.

Beebumble2 · 22/05/2019 23:28

BTW the small yellow flower behind is a wood aven, a really annoying weed that seeds everywhere. I’d pull it out.

Sparrowlegs248 · 22/05/2019 23:39

Thank you!! Yes, hellebore, I realise the flowers that are underneath it are part of it.

The other one hasn't flowered.

The small yellow flower hasnt proven to be much of a nuisance yet, ill keep an eye on it.

How about the tiny blue flowers in the back ground of the first pic?

Thank you!

Forget-me-not?

Sparrowlegs248 · 23/05/2019 08:47

Not a great pic. I thought forget me not were bigger, but I'm clueless so easily could be wrong!

That's forget-me-not - tiny flowers but prolific. My garden is a sea of blue in places at the moment - I pull out the plants when they've set seed and shake them over beds where I want more.

Sparrowlegs248 · 23/05/2019 12:11

Oh great thank you!!

Pretty sure the second photo is Anemone - does it have white or pale pink flowers when it flowers?
