So I rescued this thing from the skip but don’t have any idea what it is, initially was told it was a apple tree, but it looks nothing like my apple tree, someone else thought maybe cherry? Would love to know what it actually is.

am planning on repotting it in a larger pot and removing the weeds in the next few weeks.

From the bark on the trunk, I think cherry.

I'd be scared to plant an unknown tree as you don't know how big it will get, but I guess if you keep it in a container you won't have that problem, but it might not like it.

Looks like a cherry to me. Small Ornamental cherry trees were very popular small garden trees in the 80s, possibly still are.
If it was found in a skip it’s a casualty of remodelling. If you like it I’d take a gamble on it being the small ornamental type and plant it. You can always remove it.
If you do replant it, it will need daily watering to make sure it survives the upheaval.

I meant to say, well done for rescuing the tree.

ALL I know is it was in next doors garden three neighbours ago....so it’s been in that tub at least 12 yrs and I don’t remember it being any bigger than it is now. Do ornamental cherries flower or produce fruit or anything?
