Weigela - should I prune?

I have a beautiful weigela that I inherited with my new house. It’s currently in bloom with lots of lovely pink flowers. However, there are a lot of dead-looking branches on the plant as well. Should I cut these off and if so, when and how? Thanks.

Weigela is pruned after it has finished flowering. Prune the branches that are dead and those that have the spent flowers on. Don’t prune any branches that did not have flowers this year, as they are the branches that will flower next year.
Of course, if it’s grown out of hand you may have to sacrifice some of next year’s flowering branches.

. Try to go for a goblet shape when you do prune. When it has finished flowering prune back the centre branches quite hard. Then as you work outwards take less off. This will give the plant light and air. You will soon see new growth and you will be able to keep it to a good shape.
The wood that is there now will produce flowers next year. The wood formed this year sometimes flowers too if you prune early enough It is good to take out about one third each year. The dead stuff can be cut out now. The plant will even up, as the hard pruned branches will sprout up quicker than the outer ones.
