Scabious I think?

MrsIronfoundersson · 19/05/2019 15:47

Very pretty!

NotMaryWhitehouse · 19/05/2019 15:59

It's knautia- lovely plant! I have some myself, very similar flower to scabious.

Yes, I've had one about 5 years and all of a sudden this year there are loads of seedlings everywhere.

Footle · 19/05/2019 16:17

Thank you all. It's in the pot as you see. Does it flower for long? How can I make lots more for next year?

Not absolutely sure but I'd say either seed or dividing in autumn. Mine have been flowering for about three or four weeks so far.

Thanks NotMary, I think I'll ask the newsagent. A mine of gardening info.

It's either a scabious or knautia Macedonia - the former I think as knautia has quite dark red flowers and is quite rambunctious!

Beebumble2 · 19/05/2019 19:00

Knautia Macedonia, planted in the garden it grows huge. Self seeds.

Footle · 19/05/2019 22:05

BeeBumble, if I hoik it carefully out of the pot and plant it now, will it be rambunctious? I'd like that.

Mine grew over 6ft Grin it was like a triffid. Flowered for a long time and survived deer coming in and eating pretty much everything else. Think you're onto a winner there...

Beebumble2 · 19/05/2019 22:11

Yes, re plant it in the border, it has a long flowering season. A great plant.

Polestar50 · 19/05/2019 22:32

Bees love it too!

Footle · 20/05/2019 06:58

That makes lots of us - the bees and me. Thank you.
