This is in the very bottom of the garden which is mostly trees and backs onto woodland.
I get this every year and it grows very tall.

Thanks.

It looks like hogweed. Does it flower?

LarryGreysonsDoor · 06/05/2019 23:08

Yes it does. Big cow parsley type flowers.

I think it’s a giant hogsweed. The sap can burn skin, so be careful.

Siameasy · 06/05/2019 23:14

I don’t think it’s the giant one but yes do double check due to the sap but the giant one really is grotesque and this looks too genteel

LarryGreysonsDoor · 07/05/2019 00:25

It’s a huge buggering thing. Easily 6ft when it’s grown. I’ve never been burned by it.

It`s worth reading up on giant hogweed burns as they can be pretty serious.

Beekeeper1 · 08/05/2019 19:17

It is Common Hogweed ( certainly not Giant Hogweed) AKA Cow Parsnip, a member of the carrot/parsnip family - harmless, looks lovely on roadside verges, field margins etc, but not really desireable in a garden unless you have a dedicated wildlife area!

LarryGreysonsDoor · 08/05/2019 20:20

Yes that bit of the garden is dedicated to wildlife.
I have a big garden and don’t really use that bit to be fair.

It's not the actual hogweed that burns it's the sap. It can make some people more sensitive to the UV rays in the sun causing severe burns and blisters
