Any cacti/succulent fans about? Plant identification needed please.

Isn’t it lovely! Well, I think so anyway.

A colleague brought little pots of cacti into work as she isn’t keen on them, so I took two, and this is one of them.

The flower is gorgeous and closes in during the evening, then opens up during the day. Another flower is ready to bloom next to it, and it has grown a little bit since I potted it on.

It isn’t in my cacti book, so hopefully a cacti fan can help.
Thank you.

Looks like a rebutia of some description that’s not had enough sun for a period of time, hence the weird shape! They’re lovely little cacti, hope you can nurse it back to health.

Another vote for a rebutia

Ah right thanks @PigeonofDoom and @TalkinPaece.

It was that shape when my colleague brought it in.

I just thought that that is how it is supposed to look, given the weird but wonderful shapes of some cacti that I’ve seen 🌵.

It’s on a sunny windowsill so hopefully it should go back to whatever it should look like. I’ll look up rebutia to see what it’s supposed to look like, thank you.

Yes, it's a Rebutia, but with severely etiolated stems, they should be almost globular. You won't be able to correct those stems, but if given full sun, new stems should grow normally. The potting mix looks a bit peaty, it would do best in a very gritty mix of JI2 or 3, and added grit (about 50/50).

Thanks @NanTheWiser. I’m sure I have JI compost around, plus grit.
It’s in cacti compost at the moment, but I can change that, no problem.

Here’s to new growth.
