Greenfly... You need a spray, or some soapy water to blast them.

From the web:
The most commonly used non-chemical remedy is to spray them with soapy water. You can buy insecticidal soaps but many people make up their own using a teaspoon of washing up liquid diluted in 3 litres of water. The aphids are unable to breath under a coating of soap and subsequently suffocate.

Just be glad that they aren't Japanese beetles...

Yes, Japanese beetles are irisdescent and lovely. However, they can strip a rose bush of leaves in 24 hours. Angry

Might seem grim, but in addition to the soapy water, get your rubber gloves on and squish the fuckers.

There are never enough ladybirds around when you need them!

JosephineHass · 03/05/2019 13:23

NotMaryWhitehouse:
Eww, no I know I can't do this.😬 I'm just not brave enough.😄

Soapy water won’t help that infestation.

Squish them twice a day and put Rose Clear on

NotMaryWhitehouse · 03/05/2019 13:48

You can do it @Josephine, I believe in you! ✊🏻🌹

Babdoc · 03/05/2019 13:51

Also, once you’ve treated them with detergent or whatever, try to encourage ladybirds onto your roses- they eat aphids. I pick up any I find and transfer them to my roses.

You can get organic garlic spray. It works brilliantly, much better than soapy water. Please don't use a chemical insecticide.

JosephineHass · 03/05/2019 22:22

Babdoc:
There isn't many places where I can find them, but just figure out, that you can actually buy them-great!
That's it- beat the nature with its own power.🐞

Apileofballyhoo:
No, I'm not fan of chemical treatments- I believe that nature is having its own treatments and we just need to learn about them.

Me too Josephine.

MrsBertBibby · 04/05/2019 08:53

You can buy ladybird larvae to unleash on them

MrsBertBibby · 04/05/2019 08:56

Also, check if you have ants among the aphids. They harvest the sticky aphid goo and defend them from predators. A dish of sugar solution at the foot of the plant distracts the ants from their aphid shepherding.
