How do you clean all the nooks and crannies of an aluminium greenhouse please?

It was new last year and has been well used over the winter - but I missed the recommended February window to clean it. Now it is chock full of half hardy plants ready to go out (if it ever warms up) and I'll give it a good clean then. But how? There are so many corners and ducts and spraying water just moves the dirt, it doesn't remove it.
Thanks

I don't.

Silvercatowner · 14/04/2019 15:49

I don't
That must be near the top of the 'most unhelpful replies to a post' list.....

But I don't
I've never bothered cleaning my greenhouse
its not worth the effort

SpoonBlender · 14/04/2019 15:52

I'm with Paece. Wipe the glass down if they're getting non-transparent, make sure windows/door works, but I'd never clean the metalwork. Pointless, as it's non-corroding.

Silvercatowner · 14/04/2019 15:54

But I didn't ask 'do you clean your greenhouse' I asked 'how do you clean your greenhouse'. Should I start another thread and try to be a bit clearer????

You mentioned missing the recommended February window to clean it
but that "window" is just guff
non wooden greenhouses do not need a clean and re-seal every winter

Silvercatowner · 14/04/2019 15:56

Fucksake, I want to clean my greenhouse.

I use glass cleaner after an initial wash down with soapy water. I also put a special smoke bomb in it to kill any nasties.

headinhands · 14/04/2019 15:57

Do you wash your bushes and fences etc?

Silvercatowner · 14/04/2019 15:58

Thanks @Beebumble2 - that is really helpful.

What an odd question.....

You know, I think I'm going to hide this thread and tiptoe out of here, find a friendlier forum.

Could you jet wash or steam clean it? Sounds like you need a bit of water pressure to shift the grime.

Beebumble2 · 14/04/2019 16:02

You’re welcome 😊

Stephthefilterking73 · 14/04/2019 16:02

Jeyes fluid but make sure it is empty.

justasking111 · 14/04/2019 16:06

We use a handbrush to sweep all the detritus that gets on the aluminium. Then wash down the windows with a damp cloth. FIL used jeyes fluid. His grapes for years afterwards tasted of it. A smoke bomb is useful if you have bugs. Our greenhouse last month was full of slugs and snails that moved in over the winter.

headinhands · 14/04/2019 16:08

Sorry @Silvercatowner just never heard of people washing a greenhouse. Seems pointless.

TalkinPaece · 14/04/2019 16:17

My greenhouse is never empty and the ridge is too high to reach safely

polytunnel gets wiped down with vinegar each April

Bluntness100 · 14/04/2019 16:21

I know this shouldn't be funny but it is 🤣🤣🤣

Op, I think just use some glass cleaner. I'm going to hose down the outside of mine and use some glass cleaner, not sure I'll do the inside as too much in there. Mine is dirty due to some dust from building work, but I has cleaned it before when it got a bit minging.

NanTheWiser · 14/04/2019 16:35

I have two greenhouses. One is 16' x6' and the other is 24' x 8'. Neither get cleaned, as they have permanent residents, and I'm too old and too short to reach up to clean the glass. The usual way to do it is with Jeyes fluid, and you could use a pressure sprayer ( wearing protective clothing and goggles, as it's not nice stuff to get on yourself). But it will stink for ages.
Good luck!

Shsdycorner · 14/04/2019 16:47

I think Monty recommends an anti mould spray type of product for glass but that's unhelpful as he was cleaning it in the depths of winter. I think when it's full of plants, some washing up liquid and a small scrubbing brush might do it.

I had to pay extra for that you know 😍

Please be aware that Jeyes fluid contains a chemical (carbolic acid) which is a phenol and these are toxic to cats, as are all disinfectants which go cloudy in water (eg Dettol, TCP).
Even when rinsed away, the traces left behind are still poisonous.

There's a very good factsheet on common cat poisons from the Feline Advisory Bureau here (yes, that is FAB for short) if you're interested
