Any suggestions please? I am looking at the big plant nursery and Crocus, feeling rather overwhelmed by the choice!

I am also looking for a very fast growing climber to cover a fence. Thanks.

clematis, jasmine, honeysuckle, rambling roses, ivy
not evergreen: virginia creeper (can be invasive), wisteria

what soil do you have? what are the light conditions?

@greenelephantscarf Sorry to slightly hijack but can I ask whether a rambling rose is more suitable and/or faster growing than a climbing rose for a fence situation ?

greenelephantscarf · 13/04/2019 18:23

a rambler would give better cover

Climbers go straight up and ramblers go in all directions.

For coverage at speed, Russian Vine but it really does rampage every where. Pyracantha are evergreen and you can buy them very tall. Summer jasmine, honeysuckle, Passion flower philadelphus and lilac are good for coverage too. A really speedy and beautifully scented rose is Banksaei Lutea. It is thornless so easy to train.

Other good roses for coverage are Rambling Rector, Velenchenblau, super Fairy

Clematis Montana is easy & grows pretty fast & you often see it along fences - there’s this pink one with bronze leaves, & a white one with green leaves

I would think twice about Russian vine it’s related to Japanese Knotweed - it spreads so quickly and is really difficult to get rid of if you decide you don’t want it.

Solanum is pretty fast growing. It flowers from April to October ( and through winter if on a south facing wall).

Pyracantha?

Do you want year round interest?

Movinghouseatlast · 16/04/2019 07:28

It is full sun, alkaline soil which is not good at the moment though I have compost. I'm not bothered about year round, I just need it to be around 6 foot tall asap! Thanks for replies.
