Does Bokashi REALLY keep rats away?

I'm about to fork out for two Bokashi bins and a Dalek type compost bin, and the bran of course. The main reason being, I want to compost food waste rather than put it in with general waste (I live in Ireland, about half a mile outside a town which means I don't get access to a brown bin - that's for another super ranty thread Angry).

I don't want to waste my money though, if Bokashi doesn't really result in food waste that's unattractive to pests, especially living in the countryside.

Has anyone tried Bokashi and found it lives up to this claim you read about it? Found mixed experiences on gardening forums etc.

Thanks Smile

Don't know about Bokashi, but I've had mice in my Dalek composter

I do have a green food waste bin - I forget the name - but it sits in the ground. I've not had any rodent problems with that, but the activator stuff is pricey.

I get rats in the dalek despite it having a mesh base.

Thanks. That bin sounds interesting,
HeathRobinson. Bokashi is supposed to basically pickle the waste, making it unattractive to rodents, so then you could throw it into your compost bin without having to worry about pests. Supposedly anyway Confused

Interesting re Bokashi. What a good idea.

My green bin is a Green Cone. I got it through the county council for £20, but it's more expensive elsewhere. Might your local area run a similar scheme?

They don't unfortunately but I'll check them out, thanks. Think I'll just bite the bullet and try the Bokashi anyway.

look for a hot composter for food waste.
