Which rose?

The David Austen catalogue has lovely roses marked as ideal for pots and ideal for shady areas.
Must I stick to buying one of them? or are shrub roses much of a muchness?
If I buy a shrub rose from my lovely local garden centre will it probably be just as good?
My yard only gets sunlight from dawn until 11am. So do I need to buy a specialist rose? Or can I buy local?

I have a Golden Showers Rose growing in a large trough. It only gets some sun for about an hour in the morning and the same in the afternoon. It seems quir happy, although it probably would get even more flowers if it had more sun.
Watering well and feeding seem to be the key.

We've got loads of roses. The David Austin ones are far and above the best. I'd take their guidance.

david austen roses are great quality.
all roses will do well in pots (30l pots at least) but would do better in the ground.
shade is fine as long as they get some sun.

Off to David Austin's website I go, in search of a red or white rose (My DH dislikes pink and yellow) suitable for a pot in a shady yard. Dawn to midmorning sunlight only.

I’ve bought many different breeds of roses in the past and David Austin is much better. They also come with a guarantee so if they fail to thrive they will replace them. All of mine have been fine so haven’t had to test this but perhaps good to know.

If you plant in a pot make sure you feed it well when you plant up and keep watering well.

Yes, David Austin roses are absolutely worth it. I've never heard of anyone needing to use the guarantee but it's nice to have. Also, there 15% off ATM, which is nice.

David Austin are the best roses I have ever bought. They look stunning, and seem to survive almost anywhere, including the occasional neglectful gardener. If you ring has ask them they will make suggestions that will suit your soil and location.

Yes David Austen are usually regarded as the best. If I were picking a rose to go into my garden, I'd also have to choose one with a lovely scent.

Oh yes, do get one with a good scent. Perfumeless roses a a real disappointment

I'm not a fan of roses as when there is no flowers they aren't pretty bushes and difficult to handle due to the thorns.. However I decided last year to have a climbing rose up one side of the house, and bought a David Austin, I'm really impressed with it, it looks lovely and is currently growing at a rate of noughts.

I'd thoroughly recommend it, and as you want to have it for years, buy a good quality one.
