Oxalis - you often get them as a freebie in a larger order (if it is, keep it well contained, they might be pretty, but they are an evil pernicious weed!)

oops - forgot to add AKA 'Wood Sorrel'

You're right! I have a purple one
Hm this is a problem. I have sprinkled them throughout my garden...

Very pretty. Are they horribly invasive ? They look so nice.

LilyRed · 14/03/2019 22:57

They are gorgeous to look at, but yes, one plant can make thousands, either by runners, or rather amazing exploding seed pods that send babies far and wide - keeping them somewhere you don't mind a spreader, in a pot, and judiciously deadheading.

The only one I've found that's seemingly sterile was a copper-leafed one with yellow flowers.

It was under PBRs so possibly bred that was to minimise cuttings?

Sad to say I gave up keeping any

WobblyLondoner · 14/03/2019 23:18

The purple one goes by the rather fab name of Oxalis Triangularis! It's tender so won't survive all year round outside.

I'm afraid all the ones that are not tender thrive rather too much, as others have said!

Plural · 14/03/2019 23:36

I'm worried now. How about if I cover them with weed suppressant material? Will that do it?

Sorry I keep disappearing!
Plural - I think I'd try and grub them up as soon as they appear: even the cotyledon (seed) leaves are triangular so they aren't to hard to spot - they seem to be able to grow through membranes - eek! The problem is that they can swamp other seeds or plants you've put in.

LilyRed · 15/03/2019 00:07

whoops that should read too - must go to bed!

CrazyCatLady13 · 15/03/2019 00:17

They do make a good houseplant, if you forget to water them the leaves die but will come back again
