Tell me your best shrubs ever

So our back neighbours have made our dreams come true and our hideous back fence and related lonicera hedge, brambles, nettles and crap are gone. Once they have sorted the retaining wall and fence, we aim to plant lovely flowering shrubs in front of the fence, for colour, bee forage, and year round gorgeousness. And limited trimming /pruning.

So, what are your best shrubs? High as you like, one end profound shade, one end loads of sun, chalky soil, but not too chalky.

I bought a tiny Christmas Box recently. The puppy keeps trying to eat it.

Last week we bought a weeping pear tree. They're BEAUTIFUL. Ours is bare branched at the moment, but when they are covered in leaves they're so impressive.

So we bought the first 4 shrubs today, at Wisley. Haven't got the ground prepped yet, mind.

A Mahonia Winter Sun for the shadiest corner.

Daphne bholua Jaqueline Postill for the other end.

Buddleja White Profusion

Ceanothus Dark Star.

I already have a hypericum grown off a cutting from my Dad to go in front of the ceanothus.

Very exciting!
