Growing veg?

Hi, Just looking for a little advice really, want to grow some fruits and veggies with the kids this year and wondering if it’s best to stick everything in pots or get some raised beds?
I already have an Apple tree in a huge pot and a blueberry/raspberry in larger pots but stuck with everything else!
Any advice welcome Smile

I grew balcony tomatoes last year with DD. they were yellow cherry tomatoes and the plants grew in pots, they looked like little trees and didn't need staking although looked a bit worse for wear after a couple of windy nights. She loved picking them. They took a while to grow but things like spinach and herbs grow quickly.

Just had a look and it's spelled balconi. they come in red and yellow it might be nice to grow a few of each colour.

We have a couple of small bed in our garden that we supplement with tomatoes, strawberries, salad leaves and herbs in pots.

Courgettes and green beans grow really quickly and easily. Ditto peas. Pumpkins grow well but need A LOT of space.

Growing vegetables is very satisfying, and our son loves getting involved in it all.

If you can, do both. Use pots for things that bear fruit - peppers, tomatoes, strawberries etc. Use a bed (it doesn't have to be raised) for larger veg like beans, peas, carrots etc. Stuff in pots can be moved around to make the most of the sun, and moved indoors towards autumn and fruit will continue to ripen.

Thanks all, I will definitely look into both! Grin

OP, if you use pots, don't forget to feed the plants. Regular compost will only last for a few moths before the plant exhausts all the food in it.

You could try adding slow release plant food (like Gro-sure) to the compost when you fill the pot.

We had great success with tomatoes and runner beans in pots last year. And have strawberries growing in pots (alas it was our first year so we didn't get many berries and those that did grow got swiped by squirrels!). If you have room for some beds I'd get some as well as pots though like pp say. Enjoy! I'm so excited about growing more things this year

I successfully grew peppers in posts last year. I had a small plastic greenhouse but left it open because it was such a warm summer.

Will definitely remember to feed them, can’t wait to get started now Grin

I keep forgetting to feed my pots, even though I have a tonne of organic tomato feed Grin
