How to stop the neighbours can sh**ing on my garden?

The neighbours cat is wailing all night in our garden and pooing on the lawn, in the flowerbeds, the drive - it’s everywhere and it’s soft and smelly. The kids (youngest is 2 for context) have trodden in it, and ape art from being unpleasant I’m worried about the parasites. We have a dog but obviously the scent of that is not enough. Any ideas on how to stop is going to the loo everywhere (every single day) and if possible sitting on our drive wailing at 5am every morning!

Go and look up all of the other trillion and one posts on this subject. It's been done to death.

Most of those suggest things we can’t do due to the dog (and not owning much of the boundary fencing - only one side is ours) I should have put that in my original post- sorry! Many of the prior suggestions would also be unpleasant for the dog sadly so I feel at a loss.

Urgh that is horrible. Cats are creatures of habit and come back to places they can smell their poo from previous events. On flower beds put down something prickly - cuttings from a holly tree, that kind of thing. On the lawn and the drive pick it up, pop it over the fence into the neighbour's garden, and then wash/water the area with something really scented - water with a good dollop of fabric conditioner is worth a try. For the wailing I have no solutions at all, sorry.

Water pistol.

tracymars · 09/01/2019 19:04

I used to have a cat shitting in my garden problem. This is the only thing that worked but I don't know whether it affects dogs. www.wilko.com/en-uk/defenders-mega-sonic-cat-repellent/p/0428733?nst=0&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIjryJrbHh3wIVTOR3Ch2-agIKEAQYAyABEgLrLfD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

Hose pipe.

Stardustinmyeyes · 09/01/2019 19:12

The sonic repellent will affect your dog and your children.
I would suggest a very strong water pistol/cannon type thing.

Also apparently they don't like human hair or citrus scents
There are several plants that will deter cats.

ChakiraChakra · 09/01/2019 19:13

Water pistol at the wailing. What the heck is it wailing for though, that's weird behaviour?!

Agree with removing the poo as soon as you can, and with relocating it back next door. Yes too to washing down the area, with Something very strong smelling - maybe look up non toxic (to pets) essential oils and get a spray bottle, mix pil, water and a drop of washing up liquid and squirt liberally all over your garden, and repeat daily/twice daily until the darling is in the habit of pooing elsewhere.

ChakiraChakra · 09/01/2019 19:15

Winter isn't the best time for this so one to think about if it's summer, but a sprinkler with a timer due to come on at 4.30am would be really inconvenient to the cat and not harm anybody ;)

nicenewdusters · 09/01/2019 19:18

Yep, water pistol or garden hose.

ohwownosnow · 09/01/2019 19:28

Water pistol. Our next door's cat was getting in under fence. I sat and waited for him to poke his head through and squirted him right in the face. Did this twice and he never came back.

Shadowboy · 09/01/2019 19:56

Thanks for these- I think my neighbours will think I’m bonkers getting the hose at at 4.30am! I think spikey hedge from what I’ve read will help (our front garden has no hedge or fence- it’s just grass) I can then rave orange peel/citrus in the hedge as a deterrent. I can’t use those sonic things sadly due to the dog. We had another poo last night which is what reminded me to come back to this thread! Thank you!!

@ohwownosnow..ha ha! That is hilarious! Just imagining it now. We have a cat always sat on the top of our fence and we have noticed yellow patches on the lawn possibly from it urinating. It used to use our veg boxes as a toilet but since i started using aromatic repellant gel crystals from Wilko it has stopped. I also throw orange peel in the boxes and that has worked for ages long since the gel stuff ran out. So the citrus thing works!

I've also toyed with the lion poo pellets idea but it can get quite expensive. If only one could bill the cat owners..in a fairer world it would happen anyway Hmm

NannyMcfanny · 31/01/2019 16:43

Garlic powder dissolved in water. Put in a spray bottle.

Bloomburger · 31/01/2019 16:50

T bags soaked in Jeyes Fluid sprinkled around where they usually go worked for us.

Not sure if it toxic for dogs though.

BooseysMom · 31/01/2019 19:44

.. also not sure but might be toxic for veg patches/raised beds? Confused

bilbodog · 31/01/2019 20:25

Get a d og.....

hannah1992 · 31/01/2019 20:42

Op says she has a dog already.

Op you can get garden ornaments that squirt water when something passes them. My nan had a frog one because she had someone's cat that used to poop in her rockery so she put that there.

Although the dog may get a shock if you for them round the garden
