How close to boundary to place Buxus sempervirens

I have knocked down most of my front wall, leaving a brick high length to retain the soil of the front garden which is higher than the pavement. What I can't decide is how far back to place them so when they're grown they don't overhang the pavement too much, but hide the leftover wall.

Is there a minimum width of hedge for them to be happy and look good? I think I want the hedge to be about 50cm deep, so would have thought 25cm back from the little wall makes sense?

It's only about 2 metres long, I have 10 small Buxus plants of around 10cm height to plant.

I’m not sure how helpful I can be, but if I’ve understood the situation correctly and from my limited knowledge I’d say that since buxus are slow growing and can be kept very close clipped I’d go for nearer to the wall than further away. You can leave one side to grow more than the other. I planted several similar sized buxus in the spring time and they’ve maybe bushed out 1cm since then. You can increase their bushy-ness by pinching out the tips of any new growth when that comes through in the growing season. Hope to have helped.
