we are v rural and surrounded by fields filled with deer and foxes and rabbits and owls and stoats and godknows what else. this is wonderful, truly. but our supposedly rabbit-proff-fenced gardens are under serious attack and the beds are getting a bit on the empty side as they eat everything, and we cant plant anything as it gets eatenm overnight. (apart from some lettuces i put in for them coz i dont like them, theyre boitter )

any top rabbit battling tips?

(i am fencing off a small area for my veggies, so thats gonna be ok, but the rest is getting more and more sparse...)

Shoot them ?
Or get a pest expert in

TranquilaManana · 17/06/2007 11:54

hi! thanks lilyM, realise is a daftly positioned/worded thread... those are the obvious answers... and we do indeed get a 'rabbit man' in and he deals with them but they always come back. we are modifying/stregthening he fortifications, like (adding more chcken wire to the rabbit fence) and then will have a nother go..

i suppose, in the meantime, to plant new things i could put little wire cages over them till they are too big to be chomped in one go... but not sure that would work v well with all thedestructive, sorry, curious little people around

do you not have a game keeper , darlink ??

Bibis · 17/06/2007 12:15

Well if you find an answer, please let me know because we are suffering from them as well .

I have fenced in the veggies, am contemplating raised beds because they aren't very good at jumping, have you tried a ferret man?

Alternatively what about an atomic bomb in their warren

edam · 17/06/2007 12:17

Where do you live? My BIL would come round and shoot them for you (and take them home to cook). He's in Northants! (I'm a veggie so I don't necessarily approve but hey, you want rid.)

TranquilaManana · 17/06/2007 12:22

do you mean the cupboard wher the wii lives lulu?? how is that relevent?

bibis - no-one told my lot they cant jump! they have been seen jumping over the rabbit fence at a lowish point. (not that smeggin low) but yes, i will be raising beds do help deter a little.

ferre man has also a very stern dog and a quantity of lethal gas, which he uses periodically to no hugely obvious effect.

and id need an arsenal of atomic bombs as the buggrs dig in everywehere! rtheres dozens of warrens.
