What happens to trees if they aren't pruned ( is that the correct term?) Do they just, like, keep growing upwards?

We have a mahoosive tree at the end of our garden and I was wondering if we need to get it cut. Would it really just keep growing? How bloomin, big could it get?

And, no, I have no idea what kind of tree it is. I'll google it, if I can get a leaf.

what type of tree is it?

It will keep growing but its species has an upper limit.

I've just been out to have a look. Each leaf is long and feather-shaped and some have a red tinge to them. There are also sprays of tiny white buds here and there but it dosen't blossom or produce any berries or fruit. The trunk is brown.

i think maybe we need a picture of it?

Yes, CS, I think we do.

could leave it & see what happens - lots of growth or slow growth.

I've just googled 'British Trees' online and it's an Ash.

Appropriate as DS4 is named 'Asher' which we all shorten to 'Ash.'

It's a lovely looking tree, too. We have flocks of green parrots living in the area (we're in SW London/Surrey and they are said to be the result of either escaped parrots or parrots that escaped from a film-set in 1940.)

Anyway, I'm rambling. Our Ash is being used as a roost by the parrots and noisy things they are, too.
