Just having a little gloat. I'm the star garden in our village.

We're raising money for the local hospice and I've been meaning to do it for ages.

Sadly all the neighbours are getting ready for the biggest noseround ever since we had some building work done last year and no-one has seen it.

Anyone out there done this before - what can I expect (other than cutting happy little old ladies?)

No experience of this but well done you for having a fabby garden!

BettySpaghetti · 16/06/2007 20:50

Lovely house and garden from what I can see on the photo

Is your recording studio based there too or elsewhere? (DP recorded a few CDs with his band in Oxon years ago so just being nosey wondering if its one of the ones he used )

Bibis · 16/06/2007 20:52

We went round the open gardens in our village today.

It was great to see all the gardens, biggest definitely is not best . Ours is just a wasteland of nettles, brambles and rabbits - one day

whomovedmychocolate · 16/06/2007 20:53

Hi BettySpaghetti - yep, the converted baptist church next door is the studio. We're the Woodworm studio which used to be owned by Fairport convention (it's a tiny tiny world!)

Cat64 - no-one is using my loo. They can pee in the fish pond ;)

How fab !

whomovedmychocolate · 16/06/2007 20:54

Oh and betty that's the front garden in the photos which is a mess! The back garden is gorgeous though - big fishpond, five levels of gardens, rose arches, fruit trees, a log cabin. It's my hideyhole from DD

My mum did this last summer. She had all sorts of people drifting in! The local singing club turned up and serenaded everyone all afternoon and stood in a gazebo that they brought with them. It was quite a sight! Loads of tea and homemade cakes were served and everyone had a good old nose around the garden (and house!) Have fun!

whomovedmychocolate · 16/06/2007 20:56

I'm not inviting anyone into my house - for a start we are working tomorrow - we have a band recording an album (I may tell everyone it's Robbie Williams to freak them out actually). Also I have to look after DD who is 8 months and has just started crawling (eek) and sell tickets to this thing.

Just had a peep at your website and I don't think its one DP used ( looks far too lovely! If he had of used it I'm sure he would have told me and I would remember. Hes not here to ask this evening though).

The gardens sound idyllic -do you maintain them yourself?

filthymindedvixen · 16/06/2007 21:18

oxon? not woodworm is it?

whomovedmychocolate · 17/06/2007 12:45

Yep, we are woodworm

We have someone coming in two hours a week to mow the lawns and do a bit of weeding but yes we do the majority of it ourselves. If you click on the accomodation and then more pics link on the website you can see some of it - albeit in the depths of winter when it looked a bit sparse.

Chocolate - you are brave but if the back garden is as pretty as the front I am sure all teh neighbours will be envious
If I lived neare I would come around my self - I love gardens!
Could I be cheeky and suggest some photos on your page of your garden?!

whomovedmychocolate · 17/06/2007 13:02

Good point - I should take some more while the asiatic lillies are out - they are quite impressive. (I like them because they need no care whatsoever!) ;)

DeviousDaffodil · 17/06/2007 13:03

I lurve lillies!
I have a black asiatic in a pot - it is so gorgeous.

filthymindedvixen · 17/06/2007 17:32

OMG! Woodworm! I am so jealous! Some of my fave artists have recorded there...We have been to Cropredy so many times.

whomovedmychocolate · 17/06/2007 18:22

Urggh FMV is a folkie

Only kidding - Fairport actually recorded their last album here in October - I was too busy giving birth to pay much attention though

OP posts:
filthymindedvixen · 17/06/2007 18:25

everyone on here knows I'm a saddo folkie....some people even continue to talk to me, in spite of it

I love Fairport. And now I'll be thinking of you (and your beautiful house) everytime I hear the Woodworm Swing!

whomovedmychocolate · 17/06/2007 18:26

Well it's over, I took over £100 just from this garden alone and there were ten doing it so we've probably raised a fair bit.

A ten year old girl did indeed need the loo after staring at the waterfall for too long.

A man turned up to admire my 'concrete, rubbish really but we like them fossils' and declared them to be real and quite rare .

DD grinned at everyone in between biting my ears continually.

And one little old lady turned up and admired a plant which I could identify - sadly it was bindwind, but hey, I was proud I knew it's name anyway!

OP posts:
filthymindedvixen · 17/06/2007 18:27

lol at admiring bindweed. (Mind you, it is quite pretty....)

whomovedmychocolate · 17/06/2007 18:32

FMV it flowers regularly and never needs feeding - it's great stuff - apparently it tastes nice too.

We also have the lesser spotted dandelion and the very special stinging nettle.
