Bringing in all the summer flowers...

Do you remember people asked about which plants to put in big pots, at the start of the summer? Geraniums, lobelias, begonias, etc. were all mentioned. What are you all doing with them now? Is it ok to bring the big pots indoors? Do you just leave them inside all winter?

Complete novice here!

I was wondering similar - canna and lilies moved in so far but wondering about azaleas, geraniums and begonias. This warm spell seems to have prolonged the flowering season.

Azaleas should be ok in a sheltered outside spot.
I wait until the first frost finishes the leaves on Begonias and lift them from the soil, clean off any remaining soil and store them in a dry dark place until the spring and plant them out again.
Geraniums are best indoors.

I usually empty out my greenhouse of tomato plants ( meant to do this today. but there are still some in there after this ]ovely summer. , and move all my patio geraniums into the greenhouse.. I then only water them v infrequently and bring them out again in the spring .. I have plants that are over 5 yrs old now

Begonias. I've got some fibrous rooted ones called Whopper. They're BIG and spectacular. Any chance of keeping them indoors over winter?

Nobody answered my Whopper query and I didn't bring them in. They flowered until December until a frost cut them back. Left the pots alone outside until March/April when I noticed they were sprouting up. They look good. For reference, they were left on east facing balcony and winter was moderate, not much rain and only a few frosts, southern England.

That's great Smile

Worth trying. When you tot up the cost of summer plants its like burning ten pound notes when you have to compost them in winter.
