Question about Hebes

Need advice really. In past winters I lost hebes in the frost/snow.
I stopped planting them in the end, but this year we have put two in the garden and they have done really well, flowered well etc.
Question is: How do I protect them from frost?
I bought special covers from Garden Centre btw.
Not sure when to put them on though. They are still flowering.
Live in North of England.

I’ve never had to protect my hebes, but I put fleece on my other tender plants from November until the spring.

BeeBumble2 Thanks for the reply. I guess it depends on where you live too. Near the coast there is less likelihood of frost.
We live in the north but not up a mountain. I will cover them up to be on the safe side. Shame as they are still in flower too.

LucyLizardLost Her Wizard That's a good point.
These have only just been planted this summer so I think I need to cosset them a bit.

Love hebes!!
I have multiple Hebe in several varieties which have done me proud for the last three years.

However, The beast from the east robbed me of one of the variegated - all others survived

Replaced with the darker ones but will keep closer eye if it snows this year

Some varieties are a lot more robust than others I think, I've never had all that much luck with the larger-leaved ones but the smaller ones are fine. South east though, and garden sheltered from cold winds in winter.

Thanks for the replies folks!

All hebes root very easily from cuttings. Take half a dozen of your favourites and keep them sheltered over winter. They're pretty tough.
