I'm currently attempting to grow a lemon tree from seed.
I have planted a seed waited forever nothing happened, started neglecting it, up shoots some green sprouts.
Yipee I think then I take a closer look and find the soil is covered in these funny looking black bugs with two little white spots on their bottoms.

Any one know what these might be?

The lemon plant hasn't left my conservatory so they can't be too adventurous.
Am currently spraying with soapy water in the hope that I can get them zapped before the start nibbling.

you need to get a systemic insecticied , put the lemon tree in its pot on to a plate or a tray and mix water and insecicide pour into tray or plate and let the tree soak up the water . do not over water lemon tree ,also spray water on to plant once it looks dry . keepin in conservatoy. the best soil for tree is called JOHN INNES soil,[dh a ladscape garderner]tree must not be over watered or get too dry

its a poison the doesnt harm the plant but if the bugs eat it it kills them , just go to a garden center and ask them for a systemic insectiside,

A systemic insecticide is probably a bit harsh for a tiny little seedling. Plus it will only work if the insect is actually eating the plant.

What does the insect look like - is it a fly, a beetle, a grub?

it ok if you do half strength huni
