This plant was here when we moved in - it grows these hard yellow fruit or seeds in spring, and this year again now. Fruit are about golf ball size. Does anyone know what it is? Thank you!

No advice, but placemarking as curious.

They kinda look like plums to me, but I have zero knowledge on these things, so...

Is it maybe quince?

Second vote for quince

Urbanbeetler · 21/09/2018 10:32

Yup, quince. You can make gorgeous jelly out of it which is v tasty with cheese.

FantailsFly · 21/09/2018 12:05

Ooh that'd be good if it was quince. The fruit don't ever get big like the picture - they stay small and hard, then fall off - but that might be due to neglect. I'll show it some love and hopefully we'll get fruit to make quince jelly. Thank you so much everyone!

Japanese quince have smaller fruit but you probably would have seen bright red flowers in Spring if it was that.

Ooo we have that and I always thought it was crab apple! Will have to pick some.

It has very pretty apricot/orange blossoms (def not red). That's pretty much why I've kept it so far! So quince it is. Now just need to try and fatten up the fruit ...

Japanese quince.

The fruit won't get any bigger, I'm afraid, it's the genus Chaenomeles. The fruiting Quince is Cydonia Oblonga.

You can still try to make jelly though. Grin
