DH and I have always tried to have a small allotment. Currently he (after a monumental falling out over carrots) has a small plot in a neighbours garden which has kept him off the streets all summer, but which I have little to do with.
The man who had the plot next door has just announced that he no longer wants to continue and I've been offered it all to myself Smile
It's only small (probably 2m x 8m) and I would dearly love to grow flowers for cutting in the house. I was incredibly excited, though have however realised that I have absolutely no clue how to go about this. Is there a book I should read? Can I have a selection of plants that will flower pretty much all year? Do I have to plant them every year or do I leave them?

Plants that flower all year are a tall order. Think about a succession of plants through the seasons. Bulbs are a spring obvious, but once cut there are no more flowers. Plants like winter jasmine, kerria Japonica and forsythia flower in early spring, but would take up a fair bit of space.
Flowering annuals, such as sweet peas, cosmos, antirrhinums will be better, as they produce more flowers when cut.
This year I’ve discovered Zinnias, a big daisy plant, ideal for cutting. Sarah Raven has a book called Grow Your Own Cut Flowers. She is a plants woman who is greatly respected.

Thank you JT, the book recommendation is exactly what I'm looking for Flowers
