What to plant now that grows quickly to harness the kids excitement about gardening

My kids (and me) like instant gratification. What can we plant now, ideally food, that will grow quickly? Doesn't have to be ready to eat quickly, just some signs of life quickly. Not cress - doesn't have to be that quick.

Also what easy (I have whatever the opposite of green fingers are) fruit and veg can we grow in our small garden (so in pots or small raised bed) that we can plant soon?

Also, what is the difference between a large pot and a raised bed?

Thanks

Not a gardener myself but I have heard radishes are easy to grow. Not sure about the time of year though.

If you are in the uk, it’s a bit late for planting and growing food. Instant gratification and gardening don’t really make good bedfellows!

I think there are fast growing lettuces / salad greens

Could you get a potted apple / plumtree? My trees have fruit on now.

Rocket and salad mixes. They could try planting som rotting apples- see if they come up next year! Pretty daff bulbs in tubs , put them outside. Net then or birds and mnice might get them, Crocuses in the lawn. See if they have plants in the garden centre eg kale or leeks though it's prob too late. The shortening day means plants don't grow. Much.

Beansprouts

There are varieties of winter lettuce, raddish and potatoes that can be planted now.
We’ve just put potatoes in potato bags, they’ll be ready to have with C* dinner. Not quick, but could be exciting for your DCs to eat their own contribution to the meal.
