Growing an oak tree in a pot?

Hi all, I'm looking for some advice on growing and tending to an oak tree!

When I brought my baby to register his birth, I was given a baby oak tree as part of a new initiative to have more trees planted - an oak is given when a birth or death is registered. I'd never heard of this before, not sure if it's just my local council or further reaching but I think it's a lovely idea!
I was told the tree could be planted in the ground or kept in a pot, and I've decided to go with growing it in a pot.

The only problem is, I've no idea how to care for it! I've tried Google, but most of the advice is on growing an oak from an acorn, or bonsai.

I currently have the wee tree in a medium sized pot (poundland's finest!), in 10l of compost. The tree itself is about a foot high, basically a stick with some leaves. I've put some holes in the bottom of the pot for drainage.

Should it be in a bigger pot? Should I have it tied to post of some sort to make sure it grows straight? Do I need to water it every day?

Any advice is appreciated!

Mine is in the garden and in a pot. I think you should re-pot it every so often as I haven't and is only 10cm tall whereas the one I panted in my garden at the same time is well over 6 foot!

If you overpot it, it will die.
If the tree is about a foot tall it should be in a six inch pot.
EAch season pot it up till its in aas big a pot as you can lift
tthen treat it like one of the big bonsai trees
