Planting perrenials

I have some perrenials, Lychnis and Knautia, that I rescued from the "dead shelf" at a garden centre a few weeks ago. They all look healthy now and have doubled in size, with lots of new leaf growth.Should I plant them this year, if so when? The ground (clay) is still very dry. Or leave them somewhere warm/sheltered and plant in the spring?
They will be going into a mixed boarder of shrubs/perrenials.
All advice very welcome.

I like search and rescue plants too. If grown in a pot you can plant out a perennial any time if the ground isn’t frozen or wet. September/October or early spring is a good time to plant out otherwise. Can you divide your plants? They do look better planted in groups, usually of 3 (or some other odd number)

I would plant them in the Autumn, when there’s been some rain and the ground is warm.
Both these plants seed freely. You can leave them to their own devices or collect the seeds and sow them in the spring.

Thank you for your advice, i have 3 of the Lychnis, and one already established in the ground ( bought the others because I liked the first one). Will see about dividing the Knautia. Will plant as soon as we have had more decent rain. Thank you.
