Not in the garden but in the woods at side. The leaves look like sycamore or redcurrant but the berries are slightly elongated. Any ideas what it could be? I Google but drew a blank. Picture should be attached. Thanks!

I’m almost certain they’re not redcurrants. It looks like a Guelder Rose to me; if it is, don’t eat the berries raw.

Can we have a better picture of the leaves?

Ohyesiam · 17/08/2018 20:06

Yes , I’d say some sort of viburnum like gilder rose.

Guelder rose looks right, thanks. I don't have a closer photo of leaves, will be sure to do that next time I'm trying to ID something. It is a very striking plant, loads of sprays of bright red berries. Everything around here has gone nuts with all the sunshine we had early summer. Hoping to find uses for as many as I can but there is a limit to the jam I can eat...

Those aren't redcurrants, as pp have said the plant looks like it might be a guelder rose. Guelder rose berries are toxic, so not a great idea to make them into jam!

Probably Guelder Rose or it could be a rather bountiful woody night shade.

NotAllIndividuals · 17/08/2018 21:47

The woodland trust says Guelder Rose can be used for jam. So much jam....

How many seeds in each fruit?
Guelder rose only has one.

Agreed definitely not redcurrant..
