Help with buying my first lawn mower

Until now we've always had a gardener, but in the interest of saving some money, it's time to buy our first even lawn mower (hopefully an Amazon prime day deal). But I have no idea what is appropriate. The lawn is approx 20x60ft. Would that be considered medium sized? Can anyone recommend something, preferably under £100, that would be good, as I have no idea what I should be looking for. I want it to collect the grass, and preferably be cordless (we have a big patio before the lawn. Garden about 100ft, so the cord can be an issue). Any advice on what we should look for would be welcome! It doesn't have to make the lovely stripes down the lawn, just keep it well maintained with the least effort necessary!

Sounds like a decent sized garden. You’d defeinitely be wanting cordless like you said.

All lawnmowers collect grass so that’s not a problem anyway.

Your options are petrol or battery powered. I’ve recently replaced my petrol mower with a battery powered one. I didn’t like storing petrol, and hated having to spend a good 5 minutes pulling the starter cord to start the engine. Battery is much easier and more convenient. More expensive though. My battery powered one (a Black and Dekker) cost £250 on amazon.

Hmm, Thanks. Really don't want to spend £250. I was hoping around £100. Not petrol. What else should I be looking out for?

I’m not an expert, but if you’re wanting to spend less than £100 you’re probably going to need to buy one with a wire. I’ve never seen a petrol or battery one that cheap. Sorry!

I bought one for £100 from argos three summers ago...still on the same battery. Our lawn at home is basically the path, but I use it to mow up all the weeds that I pull as I throw them onto the path and let them die before mowing up. I also use it to collect leaves for leafmould, and do the neighbour's lawns with it whenever there are leaves to collect.

It is bloody marvellous.

Ok. Thanks. May need to up the budget a bit!

TellsEveryoneRealFacts - thanks, I'll check Argos as well. I may give up on Amazon prime, and i'll check B&Q and all the other usual places..

The one you posted from amazon...

Well it’s only £100, but doesn’t include the battery or charger. It’s £250 with the battery and charger included.

They both seem alright to be honest.

I think the battery capacity might be an issue as your garden sounds a decent size. My garden is only slightly bigger and I get through two big batteries doing it.

So yeah. Looks ok except that you might run out of power before you’ve finished the job.

Thanks PaddyF0dder. Advice appreciated!

Spend a little more and consider a Makita DLM431Z or Ryobi OLM1833H.
