Shrubbery for privacy

Our garden is very overlooked on several sides as it is just lawn and it’s very built up area. Can anyone recommend shrubbery or trees that will grow up to about 4/5m or so please that we can plant all along near the back fence?
Not too tall as it is a small garden but tall enough to provide privacy and be evergreen. If possible can be put in containers, novice at this as this is first time we’ve had a garden so any suggestions welcomed.

Thank you

I’d go for Laurels, they come with a variety of leaf type, are evergreen, have flowers and berries, and best of all are very amenable to being pruned so they can be kept neat.

I agree with @JT05 the beauty of laurels is you won't get the shedding/ root problems that trees will bring.

Ok thank you both, I’ll take a look at laurel

I'm not sure a 5m laurel would sit well in a container. I would go for laurel and put straight in the ground.....

Laurel (Prunus laurocerasus) is grim. Its a ghastly, artificial-looking colour and the birds drop the seeds in woodlands where it romps away at the expense of native flora.

Try Photinia, privet or holly.

I would plant pyracantha. Lovely orange red or yellow berries for 7 months of the year and white flowers in spring. It is easy to prune to stop it taking up too much room and is self supporting.

I would also go for pyracantha or holly, the birds love them. It's nice to introduce some wildlife into the garden.
