What hardy plant can I buy now that will flower for ages?

I have a patch in one of my borders that is bare. I can't think what used to be there, as it wasn't bare this time last year, but I am looking for something that I can put in straightaway that fills a gap about a foot square. Has to be white, pink or purple.

Border is east facing, but gets decent amounts of sun in the morning and early afternoon.

Things I have discounted (as I already have them elsewhere in the garden) are eriseyum bowles mauve, hydrangea, phlox, penstemon, hardy geraniums, salvia, escallonia pink elle (which would have been perfect) and astrantia.

I have a perennial Stock, it has white flowers and smells wonderful. It behaves a bit like eriseyum, deadheahing produces more flowers.
It’s easy to reproduce from the seeds, I’ve got several baby plants going to ensure I’ve always got one.

My hellebore flowers all year around.

A salvia called hot lips. I got one after it was recommended here. The photo doesn't do it justice.

Duh! Missed the bit about not wanting salvia. Sorry. must read more carefully

No problem Wisest. I do like Hot Lips very much indeed. It is one of the salvias I don't have (that said, there seem to be loads). And what a gorgeous example you have! It is beautiful.

I am quite taken by the white stock.

Thanks!

Coming back to say that I bought the salvia Hot Lips as it was cheap in the local market last week, as were purple penstemon and some lovely shortish delphiniums. Planted them all in the same bed, moving a few things around to make space as the salvia is quite large (!) and they look really lovely.

I looked for a perennial stock JT but had no luck. I wanted something quite quickly so I didn't pursue it, but I will keep an eye out.

You will probably have to get one on line. They are not very common, I’ve sown seeds from mine and now have several small plants to give to my friends and spread the popularity ( of the plants, not friends Grin)

Is this it please JT? I might order it for autumn planting. I am only learning my way in gardening, I don’t grow things from seed as yet.

Yes that’s it. They seem to germinate really well.
I cut back my mother plant in June, when the first flush of flowers were over and it’s blooming again.
