Hello, I am new to this part of Mumsnet but have read lots of threads and am inspired by the knowledge and friendliness here.

I have two beds in front of my house that I'm going to empty and replant.

They will be 11ft long by 3ft deep. SSE facing and in sun all day, against house walls so dry, we are on Cambridgeshire/Suffolk border so also dry, neutral soil.

There are established wisterias growing either side of the front door and large photinias at the outer corner of each bed. The rest will be empty.

I'm looking for suggestions, max 3ft in height as under windows, ideally scented as under windows and if possible something evergreen!

I'm taking out cistus, helychrisum and rosemary which were very happy there but a bit boring and are so big they look a mess.

(Would the cistus survive a really hard prune? If so what could I plant with it?). The rosemary and helychrisum are both going.

All suggestions welcome and thankyou!

Love the suggestion of grasses, also the huechera. Some lovely colour combinations, and now I'm thinking deep purple and red flowering bulbs in amongst them.

Thankyou for the recommendation!
