We have moved from a flat with no garden to a house with a couple of small trees.
I can't identify either.
I also have no idea about care - though am I right I'm thinking that I'll need to do something to stop the roots getting too big and compromising the house?

Sorry, I can't identify either. I wouldnt worry about the roots at this point. I think the guide is that they will be the same spread as the canopy. The trees might be on a small root stock and may only grow to be a couple of meters final height. Just keep an eye on them and trim the top if you think they are getting too big. You can also do a maintenance prune in autumn/winter to remove any dead, diseased or damaged branches.

Can you do a close-up of the leaves, and also of the bark on the main trunk?
If we can't help on here, go to a garden centre and wander around until you see one like it there - it will have a name on it Smile

The first one looks like a Photinia red robin, grown as a standar. It’s reall a Bush so the roots won’t be a problem. You may have to remove little spur branches from the trunk to keep it in shape.

I can’t identify the second. A photo of a leaf would help.
