Not sure what these shrub/bushes are. Anyone any ideas?

The first one loses all its leaves in the winter and then has the most amazing smelling tiny flowers in the spring that attracts bees etc, before it gets its leaves.

Hmm I think the first picture is Lilac.

JT05 · 24/06/2018 17:04

I agree, first one Lilac and the second one looks like Forsythia.

It’s definitely not a lilac like I’ve ever seen before. There isn’t a collection of flowers like a normal lilac when it has flowers, if you know what I mean - rather it looks more like tiny, tiny, sporadic blossom. The smell also isn’t like lilac (had lots of lilac growing up, but of the traditional variety). Will see if I have a picture of it somewhere!

Will look up Forsythia. Thank you!

If helpful, this is what the scrub/bush in the first three pictures looks like in mid-March. You can kind of see how it has individual white flowers.

Is the third one a honeysuckle? Is it a climber?

5000FingersofDrT · 27/06/2018 11:46

The second one isn't forsythia, but I'm afraid I don't know what it is!

Look up Lonicera x purpusii and see if that’s a match. Usually sold as Lonicera Winter Beauty

NanTheWiser · 27/06/2018 21:06

Yes, Trethew has got it - winter Honeysuckle.

Attie17 · 29/06/2018 07:58

Thanks very much Trethew and Nan - I think you are right!
