Bulbs disappeared over winter

I planted lots of bulbs. Ancidanthera, freesia, yellow alliums and more I can't remember the name of. They appeared last year but not this year. Any ideas?

Squirrel has buried lots of hazelnuts which have grown rapidly. Is he stashing his nuts but eating my bulbs?

Probably.
Squirrels are a nightmare.
I would gave expected them to have left a mess after digging them up though.

Badgers eat all my bulbs. I’ve given up planting them now.

Do those come up every year?
Sorry I am not an experienced gardener. I have daffodils and snowdrops...

Cuttingthegrass · 23/06/2018 09:30

Definitely not badgers. That's the thing there's no mess when the nuts are buried or bulbs eaten! Stealth squirrel. Next door has a hazelnut tree but the nuts are buried randomly including in large pots but never see any on the lawn which is why I think squirrel burying them.

Yes I thought these bulbs should come up every year.

I had a great plan when I redesigned the garden. Started with shrubs. Then planted bulbs. Then planted perennials somwouldnt have to disturb the bulbs.

Plan gone to whatsit now!

Acidantheras and Freesias are not totally hardy, so after the very cold spring weather they have probably had it. They are usually grown in containers which can be brought under cover for the winter. Unless, of course you are in a very mild sheltered area.

@NanTheWiser thank you. That makes sense. I didn't realise they weren't hardy
