Hi, can anyone help with identifying these plants growing in my garden?
Planted some veggies and wildflowers in similar areas and now no idea what I have growing.

Middle one is probably lovage. Very strong smell and taste sort of somewhere between celery, curry and parsley.

MikeUniformMike · 22/06/2018 18:17

Actually middle one is probably parsley. try a bit of a leaf. If it tastes like parsley then it probably is. The stems will be like hollow tubes if it is lovage.

CrazyCatLady13 · 22/06/2018 18:19

First one looks like mint, crush a leaf and smell.

CrazyCatLady13 · 22/06/2018 18:20

Middle one might be chervil, posh parsley

bellawoods2018 · 22/06/2018 18:21

Hi thanks MikeUnifornMike, Just had a smell of the leaves and has quite a pleasant sweet smell. A little like a Korma curry. I'm guessing this was from the bag of wildflower seeds I sprinkled earlier this year.

Hi Crazycatlady, just crushed 1 of the leaves and although it has a strong smell, not minty.

I have taken some closer pics which I'll try to ad.

Is the first one edible? Makes my me feel like ordering a curry

bellawoods2018 · 22/06/2018 18:34

Sorry, meant middle one.

I wouldn't eat them unless I was sure.

RavenLG · 22/06/2018 19:04

DP downloaded an app called plantsnap take a photo and it identifies it. We've not used it yet but could be worth a shot?

bellawoods2018 · 22/06/2018 19:15

Thank you Raven, never considered using an app, I'll take a look now

I think your first photo is Phygelius or Cape figwort but it has beetles/weevils (if that is a close up of the flower stem in your second post) which form a black sticky mess on the flowers so the blooms don't develop very well. I have the same on my plant.

bellawoods2018 · 24/06/2018 20:35

Thank you manzala, the plant is covered in these insects so will need to look at something to get rid of them. Do you use anything in particular that you would recommend?

OP posts:
Manzana · 25/06/2018 07:43

I don't like to use chemicals, so just cut the offending parts off and bin them, but, I think it is quite a common problem on this plant so there is probably a proprietary insecticide available.

bellawoods2018 · 26/06/2018 09:30

Thank you, think I'll try cutting first and see how well that works.

There is an app called pl@ntnet which uses pictures to identify the plants. Maybe try that for definitive answers?
