Any suggestions the trees in this border area willow and lavender. Previously I had comfrey and hellebores there but ground elder took over so have stripped and sprayed now it is bear. It has to be interesting and pretty as it is under the kitchen window.

I have silene coronaria (rose campion),lavender, small dianthus, veronica, purple salvia, foxgloves, cranesbill (geranium),crocosmia and lavender in a similar situation . Plus good old nasturtiums and more alchemilla mollis than I would like but that grows like a weed here.

Some of the above were planted this year but seem to be doing fine. Our soil is very stony and dries very quickly.

I did have a ceanothus there for a few years until it suddenly died.

I think it depends on how many and size of trees. We had some trees plus laurels and a couple of cypresses taken out last autumn and this has made a lot of difference to the plants. We still have plenty of trees and shrubs (mature garden) but you can have too many.

Obviously there are other plants and plants / shrubs in pots can be versatile too.
