I really like the (relatively) new ferric phosphate pellets - they are 'organic' and harmless to other wildlife. And instead of lettering your garden with heaps of slug corpses that you have to remove to avoid birds etc ODing on metaldehyde, they crawl off and die in private....
They have seemed very effective too.

Allmytime...I hope you have flea drops on your dog. I don't suppose hedgehog fleas are fussy about which animal they live on.

Our hedgehog hissed like a punctured garden hose - it alarmed me, till I saw what it was - so the dog backed off. It hasn't cured him tho'. He can't stop himself, he is very territorial.

merlot, I have been laughing at your 'slugs don't like it along 'em' remark for two days now.

Thank you.

You're welcome, Pointy.

I am trying to hang on to my sense of humour...increasingly difficult when every new day brings more holes in my hostas.
