Would anyone happen to know what this? It’s growing in MIL’s front garden and she’s looking to get rid of it.

Thanks

Alchemilla Mollis or Lady's Mantle.

It's lovely plant, can she offer it to her neighbours to friends?
I wouldn't say no to it.

It’s absolutely huge, in total (it’s in several patches) it currently covers the size of a large family car! It came from a tiny clipping years ago.

It’s just too big and grows too fast for her to maintain now.

Tell her to put it on freegle I spent my birthday snagging free plants from a lady who was moving and didn't want to leave her plants for the landlord

I don't get the love, it's so boring!

Trethew · 11/06/2018 07:37

I love it!

Because:
seeds everywhere so no cost
Always looks fresh
Lovely with raindrops
Not fussy where it grows
Fills a space till you find something more exciting
Excellent cut flower
Happy under roses
Softens edges

AlisonS13 · 12/06/2018 22:14

It definitely seeds everywhere- I dug out 2 huge clumps of it 2 years ago when I did my garden and still find seedlings of it every other week!

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 12/06/2018 22:18

I love it because of the fresh green colour, the way the leaves are creased when and then unfold and because of the way water drops stay on the leaves.

Ohyesiam · 12/06/2018 22:22

It’s called alchemilla because alchemists would collect the water droplets for particular experiments. And it’s ladies mantle because it’s used by medical herbalists for various menstrual complaints.

It also looks gorgeous in a vase with pink roses.
Can you tell I love it?

yikesanotherbooboo · 12/06/2018 22:24

I love it but DH hates it as it seeds everywhere and now rather dominates ou garden.

I've grown to love it, I was told by a gardener last week that if you completely strim it now it will regrow quickly with lovely fresh leaves that last further into the autum (I hope she's right, they don't look great strimmed Smile)
